The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard (BACD), a registered charity, was established in 1984 by a group of local artists. Their vision was for a venue where artists could work as well as exhibit: encouraging a high standard of work through interaction, education and exhibitions.

Through its program of exhibitions and workshops, the BACD has gained the respect of both local and overseas artists and the support of its many members. It is recognized nationally as an impartial arts organization that wel- comes all disciplines of the visual arts. The BACD recognizes that to further its aims and objectives and to build for the future it must continue to educate and encourage new talent. In the past this has been accomplished by:

•Providing artists space to create and exhibit their work

•Providing an educational environment with hands-on facilities

These initiatives have been successful at encouraging the development and diversi cation of Bermuda’s contemporary artists, as well as offering residents and visitors alike an opportunity to observe and participate in Bermuda’s cultural heritage.
